Today we went to see Enchanted at Baby Box Office (10am movie that we can bring babies to). It was a pretty cute movie. It's cold out though, and even Baby Box Office is expensive ($6.25 for the movie alone, not to mention the popcorn and soda...thankfully I don't have to pay for a 3 month old!) so I'm thinking of inviting my movie-going-friend (who has a 7 week old) if we can do baby box office at our houses. it would save a lot of money, and since neither of us are working right now, that would be good! yeah, we wouldn't see "new" movies, but i'm sure we can find movies that are new to us!
For the last couple weeks we've been propping a bottle in his crib with him to get him to take a nap. We're putting a stop to that tonight...and so far it has worked. He's been sleeping 2.5 hours. Which is good...except that this was supposed to be a short nap, not his long stretch. Wake him or not? It's really tough to decide. We want to start a routine, but we can't do that if he's sleeping! If his "long" stretch of sleep starts at 7 and goes until, say, 1am...well that kind of sucks. Because then he could be up at 4 and 7. And since I get both of those (Dave does the 1am), I'd rather he start his night a little later. You know? But if we wake him up, he might start to expect it. We just want him to sleep through the night...he was up every 2.5 hours last night, and that's hard!
Why the hell am I watching the finals of Dancing with the Stars? I hardly know the celebrities that are left. I guess maybe I just don't want to see a Spice Girl win it all. Speaking of DWTS...is it just me, or is it REALLY REALLY obvious how recently (hostess) Samantha had a baby? Oh she's back to thin alright, but HOLY CRAP. Dave asked if she had a boob job.
Tomorrow we meet a new pediatrician. It's been a struggle at our clinic...for me anyway. I met with our ped before he was born and we really liked her. It was after he was born that I started to get annoyed. We've only seen her twice, we've seen her "partners" every other time. I totally understand when I call on Monday and need to get in on Tuesday...she's probably not available. But when I have to book his 4mo appointment 3 months in advance (and a month late...he'll be 5 months) I should be able to see her. That's just the beginning of my gripes, but hopefully the doc we see tomorrow will be a little more available. He comes highly recommended from multiple people, so that's good.
When did Target start sending out catalogs? They probably think I have a kid that's old enough to look at it and say "I want that!" Oh wait, I do. He's 36.

That was a rough start!
We just got done watching the Badger men's basketball team beat Georgia, and it was scary for a while! They were down by 11, I started looking at something on the computer, and all of a sudden they were up by 2. It was great!
I hope your Thanksgiving was restful and full of yummy food. Mine was certainly full of great food, but the rest wasn't there so much. It's hard when you have a 3 month old and have to travel 40+ miles one way to celebrate. But the Packers won, so that's all that really mattered! And you know, it didn't take us long to figure out a good "use" for having a 3 month old.
"Sorry, he won't settle down. We have to leave."
It makes family gatherings SO much easier!
Tomorrow Dave's niece is watching him for a few hours so we can clean out our garage again. We had it all cleaned out before the water heater broke and we had to move everything from our storage area to the garage.

It's not all about being a mom
I REALLY needed this! I even said "WOW!" out loud and my husband said "What?" I just said "Oh, a picture. That's all." I was dying inside a little!
We don't see many pictures of him where he's not surfing or exercising lately. Trust me, I love those pictures. But for some reason, this one is just HOT!

It could be worse...
This is what I woke up to Friday morning:
The water heater decided (2 days before we were going to replace it) to leak. All over our basement.
Friday was spent moving all of our things being stored downstairs (in plastic, thankfully) to the newly cleaned out garage. I swear, we parked our cars in there for 2 days before it got filled back up with crap!
Thankfully we have "connections". My sister-in-law works for a place that specializes in flood and water damage restoration, so by 8:15am they were here sucking the water out of the carpet.
Thankfully we had another connection...my brother-in-law was sending his friend over to look at the water heater to make sure we needed a new one before it broke (we did, it was 15 years old), so he also got to install the new one we bought.
Our other connection is my dad, who works somewhere that water heaters are sold, so we got a discount.
Thankfully we have insurance, because it's a $2500 cleanup process, at least.
Blessings in disguise? 1) I get to go through all the crap that was in the basement and decide on what i really need to keep and what can be thrown away. 2) the 2 huge dehumidifiers and 7 fans in the basement are loud enough to put my son to sleep when nothing else will. 3) water ruined the vinyl in the basement bathroom that we intended to get rid of anyway, now it's one less step. (the water clean-up people actually pulled it all up!) 3.5) insurance may pay to replace that floor! 4) all of the electronics (they are safe) are away from the wall and we can "organize" all the cords and possibly get an outlet put in the wall instead of having everything hanging from the ceiling 5) we have a brand new water heater, and can put that in the notes when we sell the house in a couple years. 6) WE HAVE HOT WATER!!!!!!!!!
The downside is that, because of the dehumidifiers and fans running, sucking all of our power, we are unable to use the stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, or washer and dryer until everything is SUPER dry. Hopefully that's soon, because it's turkey sandwiches and cereal until then!

Just in case...
DC normally does Greysday, where she recaps the best show ever, Grey's Anatomy. DC is on vacation though, so I thought I'd step in, just in case she can't get away from the fun she's having. Something about naked twister, I think.
Tonight, as every night, was great.
The Chief and McDreamy - my favorite couple yet!!! The Chief is staying on McDreamy's property because he doesn't have anywhere else to go, but he's treating McDreamy as his wife. Derek is picking up The Chief's drycleaning, and getting scolded when he doesn't keep their "date" of dinner and a movie.
Callie asked Bailey to be her for the day. Take on the chief resident duties. Bailey did, but didn't take any credit for it. The Chief, in all his infinite wisdom, figured it out. Bailey was given the job, and Callie was FIRED! WTF? She was just on Rachael Ray today. What's going to happen???
McSteamy - I loved watching him try to justify being a plastic surgeon. It's not all facelifts, you know. He does SOME good work. But it's mostly facelifts.
Dr Hahn...man, she's rough. A bitch. Rude. And NOT attracted to McSteamy. I had to laugh at that!
This episode was about chemistry. You either have it or you don't. George and Izzie...they don't! Surprise surprise.
And dammit if they don't keep messing with me with the babies and stuff. I'm SO glad the dad came back for her.
Ok, I know I'm no DC. But that's what I got from the episode!

Cribbin' It
For the past 2 weeks, Alexander has decided that he doesn't want to sleep in his crib during the day. (Unless we come home from running errands and he's asleep in his carseat. We just put the whole carseat into the crib...)
Most of the time he would be fine falling asleep on my bed next to me, but this past Monday he had to be in my arms. All.Day.Long. It wasn't a good day.
The good part of this is that he's been sleeping 6-7 (and once he did ELEVEN!) hours in his crib at night. He just has an aversion to sleeping in his crib during the day.
Until TODAY! Right now, he is asleep. In his crib. (Not in a carseat). And I don't have to be sitting next to him!
This is a GOOD day!
I'm going to take a shower!

Fall Cleaning
When we get work done on our house, we are lucky to have it done by friends and family. It's still professional work, but they don't necessarily do the "take away". Which means if they replace drywall in our basement, they don't always remove the old stuff.
My brothers-in-law did just that. Replaced the drywall and threw the old stuff out in our yard. Now, what the hell were we supposed to do with it?
Unfortunately, we left it there. Not thinking about it being on the lawn instead of on the cement patio just 2 feet away.
We got a dumpster on Saturday to get rid of that kind of thing, and things that the old owners of the house left here when they moved. (Besides just junk, there was probably 10 cans of stain, 3 buckets of dryway sealer and numerous cans of paint. That stuff went to "hazardous waste day" at the dump yesterday).
Believe me when I say that drywall left on your lawn will KILL anything under it. All that is left is dirt. (Oh, and bugs). And the drywall crumbles. Good luck getting it all up.
We're thinking of just covering our weed-filled lawn with drywall for a little while to kill everything so we can start over.
It is amazing how much junk we have. The dumpster is going to be full by the time we're done. And this is the 2nd time we've rented one in the 2 years we've lived here. (Ok, so the first one was when we replaced the carpet with tile upstairs and gutted the bathroom, but still).

It's just football!
Yeah, it's just football. But when BOTH of your teams lose in one weekend (and BOTH to teams from Illinois!) it just sucks! Next weekend will be better, I swear. It couldn't be much worse!

Your depression rate is lower than mine
My doctor said that to me today. Then he said "You must not be back at work yet!" Thankfully I don't have to go back to work until my sanity (and money) runs out!
We finally have wood floors in our bedroom. Last year, we had tile put in the kitchen, livingroom and bathroom. (Yes, the livingroom. It's a small space and flows into the kitchen, so we kept the flooring the same and put a rug in the livingroom.) In May of this year we put the wood floors in the baby's room to have it done before he came home. Over the weekend, while my husband was out of town, I had my friend Mike (the wood floor installer) and my brother (Mike's biatch, as he called himself) come over and do our bedroom as a surprise! It looks fabulous, and now our floor all looks cohesive. We just need trim, and it'll be great. We still have a bunch of work to do (kitchen cabinets/counters, windows) to make this place what we want it to be, but we're really lucky to have family and friends that do that sort of work!
Now if we could just find someone who's help includes coming over at 2am to feed Alexander!

Kinda Irritated...
A good (even decent) restaurant is sometimes hard to find. When you find a place you like, you're willing to pay a little bit more. That has always been my experience anyway. And when you continue to visit the restaurant and get good food (and SERVICE) every time, it's a nice change of pace.
That is why it bothers me SO much when one of those restaurants decides to close. Just when you think they're doing good business. And when the area around the restaurant is starting to grow.
The 5 & Diner in Sun Prairie has closed.
I must find a new place to visit.

Seeking: Adult Conversation
I wouldn't trade my situation for anything. I don't have to get up and go to work every day. I get to stay home and take care of my son. And my husband never gets upset when the house isn't clean and the laundry isn't done. Because who has time for that? Yes, all Zander does right now is eat and sleep. But sometimes it takes so much effort to feed him and get him to sleep that I have no energy to do anything except catch up on my reading (blogs, Every Day with Rachael Ray, etc) and nap (HA! right!) Oh wait...it's easy to get him to sleep. On a pillow in our bed. In his bed? Not so much.
So my house is a mess and laundry really needs to get done. And eventually it will. When my husband is home and can take care of the baby.
So no, I wouldn't trade my situation for anything.
Except maybe some adult conversation once in a while! (Right now I'll take any conversation, since Z isn't even talking baby-talk to me yet!)

Snack Time?
We're hanging out watching World Series of Blackjack, waiting for the boy to be hungry again. (That happens a LOT!)
It goes to commercial, and first there's a promotion for Poker Stars dot net, and then there are 10 commercials before heading back to the show.
Every single pea-pickin' commercial was for FOOD. All TEN! Dove chocolate, chocolate covered Altoids, mac & cheese, gum (ok, not "food", but it counts), soup, manwich, 100 calorie snacks, and some others I can't remember.
It's not even that late...and 10 food commercials in a row.
Why the heck did I blog about this? well, I don't want this to become a "mommy blog". And I'm a bit hungry! :o)

Thank you!
To everyone who stopped by to view pictures and leave such wonderful comments. And to everyone who just stopped by to look.
Last week was so exhausting. And this week looks to be even moreso, since we're home now and doing this without nurses!
We had quite an experience that I will post about someday soon. Just know it started at 4pm on Monday 8/20, he was born at 8:05am Wednesday 8/22, and we came home Saturday morning 8/25.
Right now I'll say we had some WONDERFUL nurses, and some nurses who made us say, very shortly into our stay, that we will never deliver at that hospital again!
But none of that matters. What matters is we have Alexander at home with us after such a long wait!

It's a boy!
Dad again.....
We welcome Alexander William to our family on Aug 22nd at 8:05 am. He was 8 lbs. 6 oz and 21 inches. Mom, Dad and baby are all doing fine. The whole process took longer than expected but it all worked out in the end.
Kari will update on the long week that was when we return, but I wanted to get an update out as soon as I could.

Another quick update:
It was a long night and not much happened. A little bit of sleep and a whole lot of waiting. We were moved to a new room around 7 this morning and now on Pitocin. Time to wait yet again. Hopefully next update a picture of the new member of the family.

BabyUpdate
It's the Husband here "pinch hitting" for a quick baby update.
It's 9:45 and so far there isn't much to report. We checked in at 4,and was put on monitors only being able to get off of them to go potty. The process started around 5 and I have been "chained" to the bed until about a half hour ago. I have felt plenty of contractions, but nothiung changed yet (Still about 1 cm) I'm now off monitors for a short time until they give me another dose. Then in another 4 hours from now I may know more. We "like" the contractions, we just hope that ther are a bit more productive soon!
Oh, the free snack kitchen rocks!!

It's Raining It's POURING
It has been raining GOOD for over an hour now. Well it's been raining all day, but it's been crazy for the last hour. So on my television it says "searching for signal on: satellite in 2. See messages & settings/troubleshooting for info".
That's the beauty of satellite television. (it WAS on satellite 1 and 2, but it looks like satellite 1 is good now).
Thankfully the rain held off long enough for the Packers to KICK BUTT tonight, 48-13.
(FYI, satellite 1 and 2 are out again now.)
I think I'm going to go back to watching Failure to Launch on DVD. I've seen it before, but I can watch (almost) any Matthew McConaughey movie more than once. Plus, who knew Bradley Cooper was so dang cute?
Sure, it's almost 1:20am. I could probably sleep if I really tried. But, I'm not that into trying. If I put the movie back on, it'll come to me.

Sounds like a good day for a birthday, right?
I found out today that I will be induced on Monday if I don't go before then. Which, by the looks of things, I won't. So, Monday it is.
The doctor left the office with me in tears. She had said she was going to look at the schedule and I'd be going in on Monday for another checkup. I'd be 41 weeks 2 days by then. (Hello! Pregnancy is only supposed to be 40 weeks!!!!)
When she came back, she said "We'll schedule you for an induction on Monday."
She decided to induce then because of scheduling conflicts and such. I don't really care why...I just know there is an end in sight.
And I can start answering the phone again!
