Pictures

Hope you all enjoyed your halloween. I don't have much to talk about, so here are some recent pictures.

STOP IT!

Seriously people....stop wreaking havoc in my city. This is bullshit. It would be nice to be able to enjoy halloween again. Get drunk and stupid in your own damn town.

MADISON, Wis. — A weekend of Halloween celebrations popular with college students resulted in more than 400 arrests, and police used bursts of pepper spray early Sunday to break up crowds of revelers.
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz suggested canceling the annual gathering. The downtown party near the University of Wisconsin-Madison attracts college students from across the Midwest, and has turned chaotic in the past. Last year, police made 455 arrests.
"Every year there's a certain group of people who come hell-bent on starting an altercation of some kind and we can't seem to shake that," Cieslewicz said. "The only way to end it is to order State Street shut down, every business, for a couple of nights."
Police used officers on horseback early Sunday to move chanting revelers off State Street, a mile-long stretch of bars, restaurants and shops. The pepper spray was used after cups filled with drinks and ice were thrown at officers.
Most arrests were for alcohol-related offenses, including underage drinking, said Lt. Pat Malloy. He said the local detoxification center was filled to capacity and some people had to be taken to emergency rooms.
There were 269 arrests overnight and 178 the night before, Police Chief Noble Wray said.
The university had taken steps to control the chaos this year, prohibiting visitors from dormitories and warning Big 10 and warning other Midwest schools that students shouldn't come. City officials and the university have said most of the problems are caused by out-of-town visitors.

friends rule

my friends rock. i was at work, and was having a pretty crappy day. everything was making me want to cry and/or scream. i was in a pretty bad mood. then Babe called and requested Def Leppard. She does that so I know it's her. See, no one else would call and ask me that. I work at a country station. She doesn't "do" country music, but her husband (well, he will be in TWO WEEKS anyway) was flipping stations and she heard me and decided to listen. I'm glad she called. Then I got a call from a guy asking me to play that "itchy twitchy song". Right away I knew it was Mike. I haven't talked to him in a while, so it was nice to hear from him. (again, i knew it was him from the song he requested. he always refers to it as the itchy twitchy song. he's referring to Achy Breaky Heart, which he knows I won't play!) Mike also doesn't listen to country, but it happened to be on at work so he called. I'm glad. I'm in a much better mood now. Thanks guys!!!

Update: Gertie called too. She listens more than Babe and Mike, but today she called to say "Hi". Now she's on the list...she didn't even know a list existed. My day is MUCH better because of my friends.

bestest birthday present

i figured out how to hide my husbands birthday present. put it in the laundry room. surely he'd never find it THERE. and he didn't.

happy birthday! i've been told i get votes for "wife of the year" for THIS one

stupid criminal

THIS is just dumb

MEDFORD, Oregon (AP) -- A woman bought a winning lottery ticket worth $1 million with a stolen credit card and could wind up with nothing if convicted, police said.
Christina Goodenow, 38, of White City in southern Oregon faced numerous theft-related charges, forgery and possession of methamphetamine, said authorities, who searched her home Thursday. The card belonged to a deceased relative, they said.
If convicted of any of the charges, Goodenow will not be able to collect prize money from the winning ticket, said police Lt. Tim George.
Oregon Lottery officials refused to discuss specifics of the case because an investigation is still under way.
"I'll be fascinated to see how this shakes out," Lottery spokesman Chuck Baumann said. "In my 12 years with the Oregon Lottery, this is the first time I've encountered something like this."
Goodenow purchased the winning ticket October 9 using a credit card that had belonged to her mother-in-law, who died more than a year ago, police said.
Goodenow traveled to Oregon Lottery headquarters in Salem on October 12 to accept an installment payment of $33,500. The $1 million grand prize is paid out over 20 years.
Detectives began tracking Goodenow on Wednesday after learning that she had used the credit card to purchase several items, including the ticket.
A search warrant served at her home Thursday turned up some methamphetamine, but little money, George said.
"Our investigation is still trying to determine what happened to the $33,500," George said.

i'll always be a fan

do you think martie and emily are pissed that their careers ended when natalie made that comment? it's been 2 years. do you think, if she said it now, the reaction would be the same? i need them to come back. they're the reason i got into this career. i'll always be a fan.

weekend pics

not many pictures to show, but this is what i have. 30 women stamping and our junk food buffet!

oh, and a couple scrapbooks i REALLY liked from a contest some participated in. the effort these took is unbelievable!

on the one with the flowers that are different colors...each color is a separate layer. it was pretty neat. and the flower to the left is a slider. hard to explain, but really cool.

weekend wrap-up

imagine it:

30 women in a hotel conference room. stamping, chatting (some very loudly, some being catty), eating tons of junk food, and just having a good time. that was us (me, gertie and jenn included) on Friday after a 2 hour drive to the Chicago suburbs. It was a shoebox trade. We each brought a sample card and supplies to make it, and pass it all around so everyone gets to make each card. we got done about 11pm on Friday (that's nearly 6 hours of stamping)! saturday morning we got up early and made MORE cards (38 total between the two days) and ate more junk food. after that, we were done stamping. we headed to the little shopping community of Long Grove, IL and bought some cute stuff. From there, we were off to IKEA. It was Jenn's first time there. It was packed, but we all had a good time. I only spent $22.75. I thought the cash register was wrong. I've never gotten out of there that cheap! It's probably only because I knew we didn't have a lot of spare room in the car. I think Dave and I are going back in November. (I convinced him to go w/me only because there's a store in the mall across from IKEA that sells the D&D stuff he loves so much!) From there, we went to Woodfield Mall. We were looking for pants for the Big C (gertie's son), but it took us a LONG time to find them. Along the way we went to Fredricks of Hollywood (not telling if anyone bought anything!) and a BUNCH of other stores. We had root beer floats at A&W, we each bought the newest "Oprah's Book Club" book, A Million Little Pieces and decided we'll have our own book club. We'll go to dinner to talk about it when we're done. (so far, it's REALLY good!) After that, it was dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. (Gertie had the BLT Pizza, I had the Tostada Pizza, Jenn had the Roasted Potato & Grilled Chicken Pizza). SO good! We finally headed back to the hotel after about 8 hours of shopping/walking. Gertie took a short dip in the hot tub, Jenn and I hung out and chatted. We headed back to the room to read, and were all asleep by about 11pm. Up early Sunday, a quick stop at Dunkin Donuts, and we headed home. It was a good weekend, and now I'm doing an early shift at work. I can't wait for our next stampin weekend!

Oh yeah....Dave picked up some of the leaves in our front yard. There were so many, that I didn't even notice. But he did, so that's good. I wonder if he read my blog.....

Henry's Home!

After being born 9 weeks premature (and still weighing 4#10oz at birth), Baby Henry P is home. Damian and Jen are SO excited to have him there. he was in the hospital for about 5 weeks, and has been home for 1. so, he's still not even due yet, but he's home. and he's gonna be great!!! Yay Henry!!!

a beautiful fall day

i was going to blog about bad drivers today, but i figured everyone already knows that if you 1) can't drive the speed limit or more and/or 2) you don't know where you're going, you should stay off the road. so i don't need to say it.

instead, i will ask you this. anyone know a good lawn boy?
just for actual lawn work, please. trees and leaves are beautiful, yes. that's where it ends. i'm about to pass out from raking though. i have a bit of advice. if you buy a house with ANY trees in the yard, buy a rake immediately. because by the time you need it, it's too late.

this may not look bad, but it's only 1 of 4 piles just in my FRONT yard. this one is large enough to be hiding small children. it's just leaves.

i wonder if my husband will see these piles and think to himself "I must pick them up!"
I'll let you know!

must love doctors

why do we make doctors' appointments? and give them all of our information over the phone? so we can get there at our appointed time (or, just to be silly, a little early) and give them the information again. it's at THAT point where they have questions and have to call to make sure you're covered. that usually takes about 10 minutes. good thing you got there early, i guess. it's at THAT point where they finally tell the doctor you're waiting. So, you've already been there 10 minutes, and NOW you have to wait the normal 10-15 minutes for the doctor. ugh. couldn't we just show up at a random time and have the same treatment??? then of course the doctor doesn't tell you anything you didn't already know, and puts your maiden name on your prescription. so you get to you car, realize it's the wrong name, and cross it off. You then realize that filling a prescription with the last name crossed off and re-written the correct way is not a good idea.

do you ever wonder, while you're in the waiting room (or anywhere in public, for that matter) who people are and what their stories might be? like the guy in the waiting room today w/a 2 year old girl having an appointment. (the kid's appointment). he had no ring on. is he the dad, and he's divorced? never married? or is he the uncle? or something else. it crossed my mind today, while waiting for the doc, that there are just so many possibilities. it was fun to make something up.

we went to see "Must Love Dogs" at the dollar movie tonight. for a dollar, it was good! it was, while watching the movie (during a slow point), that i realized i'm SO glad i'm not a critic. of any kind. food, movies, books, etc. I enjoy these things, and don't want to be so harsh. i enjoy a good, predictable, sappy movie. or a cheesy horror flick. i don't care that "the people always have these great houses with jobs that wouldn't near pay the rent". it's not that part of the movie that matters to me. i like to laugh and/or cry and be scared. i prefer movies i don't have to think about. movies are an escape. maybe it's just me......

fish bowls and cat fights

This blog sums up my weekend and, at the same time, is an open letter to a bunch of people.

First and foremost, to Babe, Kampers and Gertie-
Thank you for knowing me well enough to know why I did what I did on Saturday night. Babe, it was your party, and I hope you had a good time. I took myself off of that bus because I knew I could and I didn't want it to go any further. I wanted to take her, don't get me wrong. But I knew I shouldn't.

To LW-
you really aren't worth my time, but heck, it's a Sunday, and I have nothing better to do. (Ok, so LW wont' even read this, but I need to say it anyway.)
Just so you know, I DO feel pretty cool because I'm married. It's the best feeling in the world to know I have someone who will do anything for me, at any time, and is always going to love me. I'm sorry that you have no idea what that feels like. It's kind of ironic that you would say "You feel cool because you're married" while we're celebrating Babe's upcoming wedding. Duh. The shit you said about me...sorry, but it didn't hurt my feelings. The things you said, however, about Jackie, were completely uncalled for. No, she didn't love you better. She wasn't like that. And that's beside the point, really. For you to even MENTION her name in that context just makes you look like an ass. So thank you. I'm glad you took care of that and didn't make me make you look like an ass. Oh, and just so you know...the reason I got off that bus was so the fighting would stop, and because I have a HUSBAND who was more than willing to come pick me up. Not because I was "afraid" of you in any way. I really wish I could have been there to see you telling everyone to F-Off (because they knew you were out of line and you couldn't handle it), including the bus driver. Oh, and the crying. Good job. A drunk bitch crying because everyone hates her....really attractive.

Whew, that was kind of nice. Maybe in a few days I'll explain everything. But this post was mostly for Babe, Kampers, and Gertie. I love you guys. Thank you. Oh yeah, and to the guy at SE that was willing to do just about anything...thank you. You look very nice in a woman's bra!!!

I thought I was done...

I'll be 30 in January. I thought I was done...being a bridesmaid! But my cousin went and got engaged today, and was so sweet to ask me to be in it. Yay! She and I lived together for a year, and in that time, I met Dave and she met her fiance. It was a good time. We've gotten so much closer from living together, and I'm so excited for her. She sang in my wedding, and now next October (they think) I'll be in her wedding. Yippee!!

She doesn't read this blog (my family doesn't know about it), but Congrats anyway, Joanna & Chris!!!

Dear....

Lady at the Hip Store in the Mall,
Thank you for being kind in your sales pitch. The "I don't want to bother you, but..." is a good way to make me think you are human and know that sales people are annoying

Person Selling Stuff in the Kiosk in the Center of the Mall,
I do not want to try your lotion. Which also means that no, you can't ask me a question. Please see the Pottery Barn Lady. She might be able to help you out.

20-Something Guy Driving the Dark Blue Honda Civic at 2:30am,
It's not really cool to lean so far over to the right while driving that you look like you are laying down. While talking on your phone. Maybe it was in the mid '90s, but it's 2005. Sit up straight. It freaks me out when I come upon a car that looks like it has no driver.

Mother Nature,
Please...could you decide to rain, or not to rain. This drizzle crap is very irritating. Turn on the wipers. Oh, nope...guess I can turn them off. Oh wait...turn them on again. I HATE the sound of my wipers, and would really appreciate it if you could just make up your damn mind. It's easy. Rain. No rain. Duh.

Inventor of Press 'n Seal,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! You must be a woman, because this stuff is genius! I use it every day for my husbands sandwiches. We also used it on our road trip. Subs still good after 3 days. LOVE IT! Although it is a bit hard to get the layers apart and get to said sub!

Alright, this weekend I shall: shop with my free $90, shop some more, clean, clean some more, and drink enough to forget how much i just cleaned (and spent).

Happy Friday, peeps!

Happy Birthday!!!

My 7th Grade Love turns 35 today.

Sing along, everyone....

Show me that smile again (Ooh show me that smile)
Don't waste another minute on your cryin'
We're nowhere near the end (We're nowhere near...)
The best is ready to begin Ooh...
As long as we got each other
We got the world spinnin' right in our hands
Baby you and me...We got to be...The luckiest dreamers who never quit dreamin'
As long as we keep on givin'
We can take anything that comes our way
Baby rain or shine...All the time...We got each other
Sharin' the laughter and love

relax...pay attention...

i love my cats. they're so easy. i have a hard time focusing when i'm watching television, and then i miss half the events on the shows i want to see. or the movies.

tonight, i'm watching shows i recorded this week...half paying attention, half checking the internet. my sweet cat plants herself on me, so that all i can do is watch television and pet her. so instead of typing my blog or doing laundry while watching shows, i just watched my shows. it was very relaxing.

unfortunately, she left me for a piece of plastic on the floor. now i'm doing this and watching "Freddie". hopefully I can focus on "Lost", because i can't miss that show!

now i get it

Tuesday wasn't a good day for me. I was extremely irritable and emotional. I couldn't understand WHY i was crying when I lost my keys. It's really not THAT big of a deal. Then, somewhere shortly after midnight, it hit me. No, not PMS. An unhappy anniversary. If you don't like sad stories, please stop reading.

In 2001, I was working at a radio station in Wausau, WI and became pretty good friends with one of the sales girls, Sarah. She was a couple years younger than me, and we always had something to talk about. She'd been through a lot, made it through, and was so much fun to be around. In August of that year, I left Wausau to move back to Madison. We stayed in touch. I had pictures of her from my going-away party. We were going to reconnect at the stations Halloween party...I would attend for the fun of it. I was still close with a bunch of people there. One email I got from her stated "Don't show those pictures to anyone until I see them! I'll email more when I'm not so busy." That was sometime in September '01. It would be the last. On October 15, 2001 at about 10:30am, I got an email from another salesperson at that station. Sarah had been killed in a motorcycle accident on 10/12. I'll never forget anything about the situation. About her...or about how I found out. I was so lost. I'd never been through something like that before. All I could do was cry and tell people about her. Carry around pictures of her and show people that never knew her. Tell them how great she was. I attended the halloween party with a picture of her on a lanyard around my neck. I needed her there with me. I cannot believe it's been 4 years. Sarah, I miss you so much.

blah blah blah

not much actually happened today. got my hydrating facial, picked up some insurance paperwork at my parents' house, went to my remote at a pumpkin farm. got back to work, and i have no keys. i am hoping they fell out of my pocket there, and that i can get them back soon. it would make life a lot easier. thankfully my parents had the spare to my car.

Weekend Wrap-Up

I don't normally do a wrap-up quite this way, but a lot went on this weekend, so I thought I'd try something different. That, and I don't remember which day everything happened. It's all a big blur. It started at 3am Friday morning....

-Drove/rode 1700+ miles to Edmond, OK and back
-actually drove about 6 hours of that
-had a raspberry cheesequake blizzard from DQ about 1/2 hour outside Kansas City, MO
-drank 4 beers and ate 2 pieces of Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza once in Edmond
-read 'The Notebook' by Nicholas Sparks
-consumed 3 glasses of wine/champagne at the wedding
-did the Chicken Dance at said wedding
-took my 2nd EVER trip to Super Target
-bought a bunch of stuff I didn't need
-went to the same Sonic twice. in 14 hours.
-realized I love Sonic's breakfast
-travelled through 4 states outside WI (IA, KS, MO, OK)
-had never been to Kansas or Oklahoma before
-had only 40 hours between drives
-met a few Texas A&M-Kingsville football players staying at our hotel
-had to pry Dave's cousin away from their room
-realized i LOVE the Chrysler Pacifica and it's navigational system
-talked (a lot) to the woman navigating us
-bought gas for $.60 cheaper than near my house
-missed Ashlee Simpson's return to SNL
-saw the sign for What Cheer, IA
-saw a McStop sign...
-started collecting McDonald's Monopoly pieces
-drove the Kansas Turnpike
-found that there isn't anything to see on the Kansas Turnpike
-admired the exit to Admire, KS
-found that it is hard to tell the difference between cheese and sausage slices in the dark (why does this taste so much like sausage? oh, it's sausage and sausage, not sausage and cheese....)
-passed a car with a stuffed deer head in the passenger seat
-realized the blinker in the Pacifica goes to the beat of the maracas in "Hello Goodbye" by the Beatles

and we arrived home about 1am Monday. What a trip. Believe it or not, with all the stresses (that I am not going into here), I would do it again. oh yeah, and the Packers actually WON a game. Gotta love the DVR. We recorded it, and were able to avoid any talk about the game until we were able to watch it today. Better late than never, I say! (Winning and watching!) Hey, they can still go 12-4!!!

if it doesn't fit, you must.....

this could be the worst picture i've ever seen of him. I guess this is what murdering does to someone.
one question...do people still really want his autograph?

Saturday, October 08, 2005

yikes

just wanted to report that after the drive, I'm still alive and kickin'. well, ready to kick anyway! nah, it's all good. gonna go to Sonic tonight, and Super Target. Yes, Super Target. We don't have one in my area!
We'll be back late Sunday night!

Baby-Mama Drama

so, now that Katie is pregnant, they have their FUTURE baby-mama drama to look forward to. You know, the kind that happens when a Joey Potter divorces a Jerry Maguire and asks for more money than she needs because he has it. Well, country music star Chris Cagle had to out-do them by having his NOW.

from www.chriscagle.com

A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM CHRIS CAGLE
October 3rd, 2005
To All My Loyal Music Fans:
"As many of you are aware, I had been anxiously awaiting the addition of a new baby to my life. The baby has been born and both mother and child are in good health. Since the birth, however, we have discovered that biologically, the child is not mine.
As excited as I was about becoming a new father, my disappointment is equally as strong. So out of respect for all that are involved, please allow this situation to remain private and know that I will not be commenting further on this very personal matter. I'm thanking you in advance for your kind cooperation and understanding."

Um...huh?

I was listening to talk radio tonight, and you know what? Sometimes, I just don't get it....
Norma McCorvey became pregnant by her boyfriend in 1969. She said she had been raped, thinking that this would make it possible for her to get a legal abortion. But Texas law then permitted abortion only to save the life of the mother. She and various pro-abortion organizations used her case to challenge the Texas abortion law in court, finally reaching the Supreme Court in 1973. The court documents all referred to her as "Jane Roe" to protect her privacy (though many years later she came forward). Henry Wade was the district attorney for Dallas County, Texas, who defended the law. Thus the case is known as "Roe versus Wade". In its decision, the Supreme Court declared that all state laws restricting or limiting abortion were "unconstitutional", and so legalized abortion on demand throughout the United States.
Ancient history? Not exactly. On July 22, 1995, Jane Roe / Norma McCorvey became a born-again Christian and a pro-lifer.
So she fought for an abortion, and now believes abortions are wrong. Oh yeah, and she never got that abortion she fought for. She put her daughter up for adoption, and her daughter doesn't know who her mother is. Can you imagine? Knowing you're adopted, and finding out the woman who gave birth to you went to court to get an abortion?
Like I said...sometimes I just don't get it.

i get it

even though my only kids are my cats, i understand why parents are late a lot. i'm supposed to be going to pick up my mom for a dentist appointment, but the cats are being too cute, i had to get pictures. and download them immediately. and post them to my blog.

Blu is the white one, just chillin'. Sami...she's "hiding". it's her trademark. She "hides" so we can still see her. under plastic, paper, bubble wrap...you name it. She "hides" under it. Blu proceeded to eat the paper after that picture, but i didn't capture it in time. that's her trademark. she eats paper, magazines, kleenex...you name it. she'll eat it.

damn

i had a post here about my team. then they ALMOST made it back. they tried so hard. they fell short. they're now 0-4. i just couldn't leave the post up that i had. i was just teasing about finding a new bandwagon to jump on. I am a packer fan to the end. it sucks that it seems like the end is so near...

my fantasy team...the one i haven't touched because i wasn't sure if we were still playing...they have a better record than the packers.

*sigh*

whoa

i'm not a fan (as addressed in a previous post), but she looks SO much better as a red-head. so much younger. yes, that is THE famous chef/home interior guru/former inmate that said she didn't know what a tater-tot was.

good day

no call from the cops last night. good thing. hopefully someone else was able to give them the information they need.

today we went shopping for new clothes for dave's interview. just picture it. a guy that wears t-shirts and jeans (or jean shorts) everywhere. most of the shirts have sayings or characters on them. you know, Inuyasha or Spongebob. (we own the movie) Yes, Dave is an adult. anyway, we had to find a dress shirt, dress pants, dress shoes, dress socks and a tie. a tie that neither of us know how to tie. he's got to take it to his dad tomorrow to have him tie it. it was a fairly painless experience, and we were out in no time. he'll get good use out of it, as he has at least 2 interviews this week and we're going to a wedding on saturday. in oklahoma. we're driving. with my in-laws. people ask me how married life is going. i tell them to ask when i get back from 24+ hours in the car (between friday and sunday) with my in-laws. hopefully we'll still be married!!
(i'm totally teasing, my in-laws are wonderful.....)

Holy Crash, Batman!

so, we had quite a full day. the badgers won, the party was a surprise, and we thought we were in for the night. a couple games of yahtzee! and the phone rang. oh, it's scott. surprise surprise, he wants to go out for a beer. it's 10:50. After 10 minutes of negotiating, he won and we met him at the bowling alley. played some darts (scott isn't very good) and just chatted. it was nice, because i hadn't seen him in a while.
so, we're standing outside saying goodbye. it was probably 12:30. still fairly early, but we're getting old. we hear this odd noise...its a car careening down the road, around the curve, spinning into the grass up on the curb, and there it sat. it was probably going about 70 in a 35, around a curve. so, i'm immediately on the phone w/911, not knowing if anyone is hurt. i start towards where it happened, and it's about 5 young guys and they're now pushing the car into the Menards parking lot. i'm on with the dispatcher and she's asking me what kind of car and what the license plate is. well, i wasn't so sure they'd let me get close enough to find out. i knew i should back away when i heard "DON'T CALL ANYONE". of course, i had already been on w/911 for about 5 minutes. some of the guys took off (walking, not running) and some stayed behind. it took quite a while for the cops to get there, and when they did, the other 2 took off running. the cops went to look for the kids (mid 20's probably. that's young to me) and another car pulled up, full of kids. i heard "what do we do now?" to me, that meant "we're here to pick up the guys that crashed and they're gone" so i told juan the bartender to get the getaway car's license plate. she was nice enough to turn off her headlights so he could see it better. we weren't on the phone with 911 anymore, so we kept the information for later use. we stuck around for a few more minutes, and decided that if they wanted to talk to me, they would call me. of course we had to drive past the divots from when they went up on the curb (because I had seen them, as i'd gone across the street....dave had stayed back in the parking lot, knowing i could handle myself. he was probably just trying to keep scott out of trouble.) as we passed menards in the direction the kids had gone, we noticed a cop and possibly the getaway car down an alley behind menards. so, here we are. it's 1:40am, and as much as i'd like to be a "hero" with the information, i hope they wait until tomorrow to call.
